Providence Classical School is not the only private school in Williamsburg.  What makes Providence unique?  Consider what you want for your children’s education as you read about what sets PCS apart from other schools.

CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Providence is a Classical Christian School and that means we approach education very differently from other schools. Instead of departmentalizing subjects, preparing for tests and focusing on self-expression, Providence leads students to discover knowledge that is ordered, coherent, integrated, and rooted in the wisdom of the past with Christ at the very center of it all, providing a basis for all that is true, good, and beautiful.

BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW

The conviction that all truth comes from God and that all things are to be understood in light of the Bible marks every aspect of Providence Classical School.

KNOWN AND LOVED

Providence offers a supportive environment of small classes in which each child is known and loved and is encouraged to exercise healthy habits of heart and mind.   Every child, as an image bearer of God, is trained to know and love the true, good, and beautiful.

GRACIOUS CULTURE

When you walk through our doors, you will notice Providence is different.  Our culture is peaceful and joyful. Students exhibit good manners through respectful behavior towards adults and peers.

VIRTUE FORMATION

We believe that education at its core is about passing on wisdom and virtue to the next generation.  At Providence there is just as much emphasis on a student’s character development as there is on academic achievement.  This means that student report cards include an assessment of virtue as well as grades for each subject.

STUDENT INTEGRATION

Providence offers a full JK-12 program, including half-day and full-day options for kindergarten.  Our traditions provide numerous opportunities for all grades to come together for celebrations and service.

HOUSE SYSTEM

The PCS House system, integrating grades 6 and above, offers an opportunity for students to engage in community beyond their class groups.  Houses foster a sense of community and belonging while propelling students to seek out ways in which they can serve their school and beyond.

THOUGHTFUL USE OF TECHNOLOGY

At Providence, we take a measured approach to the use of computers and technologies in the classroom.  We don’t want passive learners who seek to be entertained but rather active students who learn to enjoy working through the challenge of contemplating truth, beauty, and goodness.  It is for this reason technology does not form a central component of our curriculum; it is used as a tool to support our broader educational goals.

ART OF RHETORIC

PCS students are given the freedom to debate and discuss the important questions of humanity.  Upper school students are trained in formal Logic and Rhetoric and practice these skills through Harkness discussions in which they are taught how to present sound, rational arguments in a respectful manner.

REAL WORLD READINESS

Above all, Providence Classical School fosters a love of learning and gives students the tools to learn on their own.  With the ability to discern, articulate, and live truth, students are prepared for the challenges they will face.
